Challenge #2

In your own space, set yourself some goals for the coming year.

My goals for the year are still in the nebulous, "well, this is kinda what I'd like to do," stage and haven't been fleshed out into real, actionable goals yet.

I have been thinking about them a lot, it is the season, but also several comms I'm in have had their goals for the year check in posts, and I set up my new bullet journal pages and my planner for the year. Based on those things, my goals will look something like this:

I rambled a bit, so it's under a cut.

-Tracking and managing my anxiety and general mental health are still a priority. Last year was a mess. This year, I've already had an extremely bad day and it's only 3 days in.

- Finding a housekeeping schedule that I can both actually keep up with and keep my mother happy. The balance is difficult.

- Co-Hosting Winterfest in July & Fall Fest at [community profile] allbingo again. It will be our 11th round for Winterfest in July and our 10th for Fall Fest.

- Write more. I'm not sure what that looks like, exactly, as I had the ideas and the desire, but not the spoons to carry it out least year. I think I wrote maybe 3 fics the entire year in 2023 (outside of last minute fills to 2022 fandomtrees). One ended up on AO3, one was way outside my comfort zone and is temporarily public on my DW and I am so uncomfortable with having written it, and the other is still in my notebook. It never got typed up.

- Continuing playing on Subeta. The last week or so hit a major snag, but I've been doing well finding a balance between being an active player and not letting it be a major time suck.

- A [community profile] get_knitted, I mentioned that I want to do some major stash busting across all my craft and art supplies. I'm not going to say, "I'm not going to get anything new," as that is unrealistic, but I need to use and/or re-home what I have. In December, our local library had a craft supply swap. I hope to find more events like that as well, especially ones I have more time to prepare for, because that would be very helpful. Also, the library's adult services direct has mentioned to me that I can reserve the small meeting room as a work space. (The library also has a makers' space, but whether that is intended to be a "drop in and use" space or a "must reserve" space remains unclear, despite my asking.)

- Acknowledge and celebrate the wins and the happy. My ways of trying to do this in the past are no longer particularly helpful, so I'm trying something new.

- I really want to get a doctor's appointment, a dental cleaning, and an eye exam. My new job is not just stressing me out to the point of tears, it has now officially put my healthcare coverage in possible jeopardy as well.

- Continue the IRL and online community building I've been doing. This has been one of the few bright spots of the last year and while I often feel like I haven't been doing enough, little things seem to be doing a lot. For example, Christmas 2022, I noticed that while my mother has lived in the neighborhood for almost 50 years, all but 2 other neighbors had lived there for less than 5, and despite me living full time at home for almost 3 years at that point, almost none of my neighbors knew I lived in the neighborhood because of my weird schedule. So, I brought every house in the neighborhood cookies and introduced myself. My thought at the time was just making a point of introducing myself, but it sort of started something. Over the last year, it has lead to pretty much everyone interacting with each other much more than before, and everyone is just bringing everyone things now - freshly made jams & jellies, garden produce, fresh eggs, fresh salmon, homemade firestarters - people are doing favors for each other.

- schedule decompression time.

- at [community profile] bitesizedcleaning, I said my home related goals "relate to tackling the storage room and making my personal space more, um, inhabitable. They are both huge tasks, so every little bit helps."

- continue cooking my way through The Adventurous Eaters Club cookbook. The recipes are simple, provide more vegetables in my diet, taste good, and will make grocery shopping more focused.

- I wrote my 2024 Wrisolutions for [community profile] ushobwri.

- I'm doing the [community profile] moodthemeinayear

- I will probably pledge to read 40 books at Good Reads. That seems to be a good number for me.

- I'm continuing with book club, though we are now renting our books, not buying them and that makes me a little sad.

- I'm thinking about doing [personal profile] kingstoken's book bingo.

- the library will probably have several reading challenges throughout the year and I will probably do them.

- there is a new monthly art book workshop series at the library I will be doing. Instead of making a new book every other month, we will be doing a page each month, using a different technique, then compiling them into a book at the end. (Each of us will make our own book, not one giant book for the class.)

- keep up with the daily Murdle puzzles.

- get back to walking

- I'm considering a "40 before 40" list.

This is the best goal I have read so far. This is amazing, actually the entire list is. My goal is to clean my oven--I'm not joking.

Also, your journal colors match my snowflake icon.

I love your list.

Finding a housekeeping schedule that I can both actually keep up with and keep my mother happy. The balance is difficult. I need that one as well. Swap your mom for Mikey. ;)

Oh, wow, this is so cool, and really wonderful. I keep trying to think of what I could do to build a local feeling of community but I don't think I am brave enough for this (yet?). My neighbourhood is very built up as well, which is intimidating (can't bake 1000 cookies) but may be good as well (might be able to start a specific activity like a book club or anime watching or tea time or ???). I really admire you going for it, it's very cool and very inspirational! All of your goals are great. Best of luck with them!

Wow. Such a variety of things. I wish you all the best!

I do struggle with getting more craft supplies and using what I have. There comes a point when I don't like whatever's left or it doesn't fit with anything else and I end up getting new stuff. I also have an impulse buying problem so I don't want to feed that too much. I wish my library had a craft swap!

Finding a housekeeping schedule that I can both actually keep up with and keep my mother happy. The balance is difficult. Yeah, I can imagine. Good luck!

I looked at [community profile] bitesizedcleaning. I hadn't heard of it before.

I am SO very proud of you, Kat! You have got stones I'd never have -- going and taking cookies to everyone and introducing yourself! It took a lot of courage for me just to go to two old friends' houses this past Christmas season, and I think of going back to one of them, but probably won't tbh. I'm just really, really NOT good at socializing in person. :) And honestly, now that I'm working on a PC full time for my paid job, I just -- yeah, no forced interactions, not very many interactions AT ALL. :)

And to think it even started everyone helping each other!!! That is SO AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it sounds like you got your neighbors out of the house and into sociable neighbor mode, which is so cool. seriously, it's such a lovely thing to have done and it's fabulous that because of your initial cookies everyone is doing stuff for each other now.
